Class Descriptions:


Iyengar Yoga (Level 1-2):

Iyengar yoga is a type of Hatha yoga developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, based on the eight limbs of yoga as described in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Props such as blocks, belts, bolsters, blankets, chairs and walls are used to ensure students can practice the postures with correct alignment and safely develop their yoga practice over time, building strength, flexibility and body awareness. As balance in the body develops, balance in the mind follows. promoting physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

To B.K.S. Iyengar, yoga is “meditation in action”. His teaching combines all eight elements in asana practice, which helps us explore and experience the rest. This brings us back into contact with the outside world, awakened by the basic understanding that everything and everyone are interconnected.


Restorative Yoga/Stress Relief:

Developed by BKS Iyengar, Restorative Yoga Supports the body in various postures and has a soothing, yet powerful physiological affect; it promotes a “relaxation response” in the nervous system and counteracts the negative forces of a “fight or flight” response on the immune system. Extended stays in postures that stretch and tone the internal organs activates internal cleansing and those that invert the body, increase functioning of the glandular system. By resting the bones that usually bear weight, and releasing the muscles that move us into action, the “undoing” quality with this therapeutic type of yoga is rejuvenating for body, mind, heart and spirit.

Postural Yoga – Egoscue Alignment Therapy:
